It's not often that the stage play is better than the movie, but this romantic comedy ran four years on Broadway and resulted in a Tony Award for the lead actress, Ellen Burstyn. The play has worn well and is ever popular, likely because the light-hearted and heart-warming start becomes deeply emotional as Doris and George share their life's challenges and loss of loved ones. It all started when these two, who were married to others, have an affair. We are reminded of the sweep of history as they meet again, the same weekend each year, and each scene draws us more deeply into their lives.

Valentine's Day is for kids too. Be sure to call in advance to ensure your children ages eight to 12 can mix, bake and decorate sugar cookies straight from one of Mrs. Ramsey's recipes. Chefs take care of the hard part by measuring ingredients, mixing dough and rolling out the cookies. The wood-burning stove in the restored 1870s kitchen will be fired up and ready to bake as the kids tour the mansion to experience Valentine's Day just as the Ramsey grandchildren did. The young boys and girls finish the fun by tasting their baked delights and taking some home.
