Bachmann Clears Up Presidential Debt After Leaving Congress
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Debt that lingered from Republican Michele Bachmann's 2012 presidential campaign is now resolved.
A recently filed federal campaign report shows that the former Minnesota congresswoman paid off remaining bills from that unsuccessful White House bid. She left Congress this year after declining to seek re-election to the seat she held for four terms.
At one point Bachmann had been carrying $1 million in presidential campaign debt, which she gradually whittled down. The last $45,000 was paid off in October.
Bachmann hasn't said what she'll do next. But she left office with a healthy balance in her congressional campaign fund. A report filed last week revealed that the fund had a $1.7 million cash balance.
