Police: Baby taken from Shakopee gov't center found safe, mother awaiting extradition in Wisconsin

SHAKOPEE, Minn. -- A baby that was allegedly taken from a supervised parenting visit in Shakopee Tuesday afternoon has been found safe, authorities say, and his mother is awaiting extradition in Wisconsin.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension believed the 9-month-old child was removed from protective custody by his 26-year-old mother.

Wednesday morning, the Shakopee Police Department said the boy "was found and is safe." The BCA said the mother has also been found.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office said local law enforcement found the two in Hager City, Wisconsin, which is just across the border from Red Wing. The mother is awaiting extradition back to Minnesota, the sheriff's office said.

"This matter is still under investigation, and we know that people have a lot of questions about this incident," Sheriff Luke Hennen said. "Many of these questions will be addressed in the charging documents." 

The two had last been seen at the Shakopee government center and left the area on foot.
