Officials Seek To Raise Awareness On Problem Gambling

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and Minnesota officials are urging people to start conversations about the issue.

The Minnesota Department of Human Services has launched a video campaign that will be seen throughout the state at gas stations and sporting areas this month.

The videos show testimonies from individuals who've been confronted about their gambling problem and have turned their lives around.

According to the National Problem Gambling Council, it's estimated that 6.2 million people in the United States experience problem gambling and 3.4 million individuals have a gambling disorder.

A help hotline is available in Minnesota for those who suffer from a gambling addiction or have a loved one who does, DHS said.

The hotline is free and confidential and can be reached by calling 1-800-333-HOPE or by texting HOPE to #61222.
