Police: 1 Injured In Officer-Involved Shooting At Brooklyn Park Walmart

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say one person is injured after an officer-involved shooting Monday near the Walmart in Brooklyn Park.

According to Brooklyn Park police, officers responded around 11:54 a.m. to the retailer on the 8000 block of Lakeland Avenue North on a report of a suspicious person.

Upon arrival, officers encountered three men in the parking lot, when suddenly, one ran to a vehicle and pulled out a gun.

"He was running away from the officers when he started shooting at them," Brooklyn Park Police Chief Craig Enevoldsen said. "The officers return fire, the suspect was struck and went down."

As many as 500 people were inside the store at the time, others were out in the parking lot when the gunfire erupted.

"I picked a hell of a time to visit this Walmart," one shopper said.

No officers were injured.

Officials say the suspect is being treated at a local hospital and his two accomplices are being questioned.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken over the investigation.

No additional details are available at this time.
