Police Investigate Attempted Robbery On U Of M Campus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred on campus Thursday night.

According to the U of M police, around 9:15 p.m. officers responded to a call of an attempted robbery on Lilly Plaza, just east of Northrop and north of Morrill Hall.

Police said the victim, who is a student, was walking with a friend across the plaza when someone ran into her from behind and attempted to take her phone from her hand.

The victim and the suspect struggled over the phone and fell to the ground. Eventually, the suspect got up and fled east toward Church Street.

Police said the victim was not injured and did not lose any property.

According to the police report, the suspect was male and wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with thin gray stripes and blue jeans. The victim told police the sweatshirt concealed any other distinguishing factors about the suspect.

This incident is currently under investigation.
