Art 'Shanty Town' Event Held In Minneapolis Brewery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A winter event that's usually held on a frozen lake took place indoors Saturday night around some ice cold beer.

For the past decade, people have enjoyed an artist-created "shanty town" on the frozen White Bear Lake. Funding has been a problem, though, so the art shanties are only outside every other year.

This winter, organizers still wanted to hold the event, so they did it at Fulton Brewery in Minneapolis.

"Part of our goal is to expand what art can be, who an artist is," Executive Director Dawn Bentley  said. "It's really a community process."

Just like when the event is outside, people could walk through and interact with the art displays. Money raised at Saturday's event will go toward the 2016 art shanty project, bringing it back to White Bear Lake.
