Armed robber targets Apple Valley and Savage banks 90 minutes apart
APPLE VALLEY, Minn. – Police in Apple Valley and Savage are searching for the armed man who tried to rob two banks Tuesday afternoon.
The first robbery occurred just after noon at a bank in Savage off Highway 13 South, and the second one happened at about 1:37 p.m. at the Royal Credit Union on Cedar Avenue.
Police say in both cases, the man – who had a handgun and was masked – ordered workers to open the bank vaults. Employees at the Savage bank said the man yelled his demands, but when he was told their vault was empty, he fled empty handed.
Employees at the Apple Valley bank said he "jumped over the counter" and forced a worker to open the vault, and fled with money.
The man is described as standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 230 pounds. He wore an orange and yellow sweatshirt and gray pants.
