Archbishop Deposition Stems From Lawsuit Against Father Adamson
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities archbishop is going to have to answer questions under oath about clergy sex abuse cases.
A Ramsey County judge has ordered Archbishop John Nienstedt and former Vicar Gen. Kevin McDonough to be deposed by lawyers within the next 30 days.
This ruling stems from a lawsuit filed against Father Thomas Adamson. A man says he was abused by him in the 1970s.
The judge also gave the archdiocese one week to release the names of all priests accused of abuse between 2004 and now.
In a statement, the archdiocese said it "looks forward to working with the court and all affected parties to promote the protection of children, the healing of victims and the restoration of trust of the faithful and our clergy."
The church's statement also said it wants to pursue justice for any priests who are falsely accused.
