Charges: Apple Valley Mom Finds Man Peeping On Daughter
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 41-year-old man faces a felony charge, officials say, after an Apple Valley mom caught him earlier this month peeping on her teenage daughter.
Perry James Heaton, of Apple Valley, is charged with inference with privacy, according to charges filed in Dakota County court.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman called police last Monday night after she found a man hiding near her house when she arrived home from work.
At first, she thought the man was her husband, and was confused why he seemed to be hiding. When he ran off, the woman realized it was indeed someone else.
Soon after, she found a ladder underneath her 15-year-old daughter's window. The lights were on in her daughter's room, as well as the rest of the house.
When an officer arrived at the scene a few minutes later, he found Heaton curled up in a ball behind a tree in the neighbor's yard.
After being arrested, Heaton told police he was looking at a "lady" through the window, the criminal complaint states.
He admitted to peeping on people a half dozen times in the past, adding that he chooses houses at random, depending if the lights are on.
He told police that he peeps on people for "the excitement" and because he likes seeing what other people are doing.
If convicted of the felony, Heaton faces a maximum sentence of 2 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
