All-Star Game FanFest Opens At Mpls. Convention Center
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Baseball fans hoping to be overwhelmed by memorabilia headed to the MLB All-Star Game FanFest, which opened Friday morning at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
The doors opened at 9 a.m. The first day's focus is on kids, with the first thousand kids through the door getting a free T.C. Bear bobblehead.
The game itself isn't until Tuesday, but FanFest organizers listed out by the numbers just how sizable their offerings were.
Speaking of sizable, fans can behold the world's largest baseball, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. It is 12 feet in diameter and has been signed by the likes of Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra and Ted Williams.
There are 16 official MLB awards and trophies on display, including the Commissioner's Trophy, Home Run Derby trophy and All-Star MVP award.
There are also 128 artifacts available for view that were shipped over from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Nina Moini reported from the Convention Center Friday morning and spoke with Baseball Hall of Fame curator Erik Strohl, as well as FanFest spokesperson Jen Zudonyi and auctioneer David Hunt.
