Woman, 84, In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car In Albert Lea

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in southern Minnesota say an 84-year-old Texas woman suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a car Wednesday morning while crossing the street in Albert Lea.

Police say that Dorothy Klinger, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was not in the crosswalk when she tried to cross Front Street mid-block between 4th Avenue and Maplehill Drive.

A car driven by 68-year-old Daniel Davis, of Albert Lea, struck Klinger. Davis told police that he was blinded by the morning sun and didn't see the Texas woman in the middle of the street.

Witnesses confirmed that they also couldn't see Klinger due to the brightness of the sun.

As of Thursday, Klinger was in critical condition at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Police say that speed was not a factor in the crash.
