After tweeting at Vikings, fan from Arizona surprised with free playoff tickets
MINNEAPOLIS -- A die-hard Vikings fan is getting a very special gift.
"The first time he saw a game, he saw Fran Tarkenton and he was like- I like that," said Jason Harmon.
Jason's dad was from California and is responsible for getting him interested in the Vikings. Jason lives in Scottsdale, Arizona and has no ties to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. But thanks to his father, that hasn't stopped him from bleeding purple.
"I think with no pressure, because no one outside of Minnesota believes, I think we can make a run," said Jason.
Earlier this week, as a joke, he tweeted at the Vikings asking for free playoff tickets.
"No interactions on the tweet. Totally dumb joke. Anyone who saw it knew that this is totally dumb," said Jason.
That's why he was shocked when Delta Airlines responded days later and offered to give him and his wife Jenna free flights to Minneapolis. The Vikings then joined in on the fun, and offered two free tickets to the playoff game.
"They wanted to partner with Delta to find an out-of-town fan and get them to the game. I don't know what lucky side of the bed I woke up on," said Jason.
No matter what happens on Sunday, he feels like he's already won.
"I've had over 4,000 Twitter notifications. About 80 DM's on Instagram. I can't keep track of it all but it's awesome," said Jason.
Ironically, Jason and Jenna flew into town for the Vikings game on Thanksgiving and announced during a stadium tour that they were pregnant with their first child: a boy.
Jason likes the name Kirk after Kirk Cousins, if the Vikings win the Superbowl. His wife isn't so sure. But one thing he's certain of, he'll be wearing his dad's old Vikings jacket to the game on Sunday.
"In 2015, unfortunately my dad passed away from cancer," said Jason. "It's going to definitely be my dad's jacket up top over the jersey for sure," said Jason.
Jason and Jenna will fly to the Twin Cities tomorrow morning. He says he's looking forward to meeting other Vikings fans while tailgating on Sunday morning
