Adrian Peterson, Vikings Make Elementary School Appearance
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The idea Wednesday morning was for the Minnesota Vikings to build a playground like they do every year -- this time in Falcon Heights.
Vikings employees were able to join with volunteers and start in on construction, and they made progress. But the team never got to join because the skies opened.
"It's exciting to get back to the community, give kids a park to play in, have fun," tackle Matt Kalil said. "As you can tell, the weather is not really allowing us to do that (laughs)!"
So they shifted the focus to Falcon Heights Elementary School. Adrian Peterson was there, looking like he felt good to be part of the team in any capacity. And the team did some bonding.
"We had a little bit of rain and some lightning," safety Andrew Senejo said. "But we were still able to come inside, play some games with the kids and, you know, go around and sign some autographs, give some high fives, so it was still a good experience overall."
They took a rainy day and turned it into something good. Call it a "community audible."
"I put my good shoes on to come out here, I put my hoodie on to come out here and build a playground, man, but we got turned down, you know, there was a little thunderstorm," wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson said. "But you know it's always good coming back, you know, being in the gym, you know, seeing the kids, putting smiles on their faces."
The Vikings' OTAs run through June 13. Mandatory mini camp begins June 18.
