Traveling 9/11 Exhibit Arrives In Minnesota
WINSTED, Minn. (WCCO) -- It may seem hard to imagine, but we are soon approaching the 17th anniversary of a singularly terrible day in modern American history.
Sept. 11, 2001 will forever be etched in our collective minds and souls. Who could forget what that moment felt like and the intense fear that gripped a nation?
Certainly not the residents of Winsted, as folks there lined the streets to witness an escort of fire trucks and first responders. They were there to watch as the 9/11 Never Forget mobile exhibit rolled into town inside a 53-foot tractor trailer.
"It's one of those times we all remember where we were at and what we were doing," Winsted Fire Chief Brian Langenfeld said.
This terribly sad moment in American history had come to pay a weekend visit.
"It just brings back all those memories of where you were when this happened," Rick Baumann said.
To so many of our nation's first responders it's personal, and to the public it is a moment never to forget.
"It's a big tragedy and it's sorrowful it's just sad," Shirley Vorlichek said.
The 9/11 Never Forget mobile exhibit arrived Thursday to a sea of quiet reflection and kids waving flags. Corey Moses brought his three young children.
"They gave us this opportunity to come together and it shows from 9/11 that it still touches home," Moses said.
For most people, the walk-through trailer will be as close as they'll ever get to the twisted girders, choking dust and sacrifices of so many brave souls.
"It's really special and I feel very honored to have it in our community so our citizens in particular get to see this exhibit," Winsted Police Chief Justin Heldt said.
The exhibit will be in Winsted Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 2 and 8 p.m. each day. No tickets are required and no admission is charged.
