5 Things Packers Fans Always Bring Up
Football season is here, and that means fans will constantly be arguing over arcane pigskin stats, facts and history.
And if there are any fans who love to talk, who can't help but remind you how great their team is…it's Green Bay Packers fans.
So here are some classic, infuriating things cheeseheads love to say. However, you'll need to find your own game plan – or some cheese curds -- if you want to shut them up.
They've got a lot to brag about.
1. How Many Super Bowls Have You Won?
This question is aimed specifically at Vikings fans.
Cheeseheads use this to shut down the talk, to distract you from your point, to get you to give up some ground.
And...you've just got to give it to them.
They've won a bunch of championships, and championships equal bragging rights.
Just concede they've won more Super Bowls -- although some were a lifetime ago -- and move on.
2. You Guys Are Just Fair-Weather Fans...
If you've ever been to Green Bay, you'll notice these people are nuts. Fanatical. They make religious-looking shrines out of Packers memorabilia, and their entire culture revolves around Lambeau Field games.
I mean, every home game has been sold out since 1960.
And it's easy to see why. Football is all that the city, which is a third the size of Minneapolis, has.
Also, the fans own the team.
This is, to be honest, pretty amazing. They are the only publicly-owned, nonprofit sports franchise in the country.
So, you can't dish it right back. They aren't fair-weather fans.
3. You're Getting A New Stadium? Cool. We've Got Lambeau
Man, getting the new stadium in Minneapolis was a huge headache. For many Minnesotans, the politics of it still leaves a bad taste.
Thankfully, investing in the stadium has gotten us a Super Bowl.
But what money can't buy is legacy, and that's what Lambeau Field is built on. It's like the Mount Rushmore of football stadiums.
The home of the Ice Bowl is beloved to such an extent that getting season tickets there is pretty much impossible. The wait list is 86,000 people deep, and if you put your name on it today, you might actually get the tickets in about 1,000 years. Literally.
And to top it all off, they got the Lambeau Leap -- that singular embrace of player and fan.
4. Favre Was The Greatest, And He Belongs To Us.
While Favre made cheeseheads rage when he signed with the Vikings, he's since been forgiven.
To Packers fans, his was an era of glory. He was the centerpiece of a team built for victory, and they went to the Super Bowl two years in a row.
He'll be in the Packers Hall Of Fame, and there's still a street named after him next to Lambeau Field. It's called Brett Favre Pass, and it runs parallel to Lombardi Avenue.
As for whether or not Favre was the greatest quarterback…well, his numbers are pretty incredible.
And now they've got Aaron Rodgers. He's shaping up to be a Hall of Famer, too.
5. We're Done With Him. You Can Have Him.
Seeing Favre in colors other than green and gold hurt Packer fans, but it also made them angry.
Now they've got some tough skin. So when they see beloved players like Greg Jennings scoring touchdowns for the Vikings, they're all "Good for you guys. Too bad he's not as good as he was a few years ago, when he was with us."
---
In conclusion, you just can't win.
