2 teens dead, 2 hurt in St. Paul crash

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Four teenagers were involved in a fatal crash in St. Paul late Friday night.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened after 11 p.m. along Highway 61 north of Lower Afton Road.

A Nissan Maxima was said to be traveling at fast speeds when it veered off the road, rolled and went airborne. The vehicle crashed in the tree line, striking a number of trees.

Investigators say that the car came to rest about 40 to 50 feet from the main roadway.

The driver, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to Regions Hospital with unspecified injuries. There were three passengers, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. All of them were 17-year-old boys from Prescott, Wisconsin.

Prescott School District identified the two boys who died in the crash as Cadence Allen and Ayden Nelson. Both were students at Prescott High School. According to the crash report, neither of the boys were wearing a seatbelt.

Another passenger, Bryndan Hartman, 17, is in the ICU as of Saturday afternoon.

The crash report reveals alcohol was involved for one of the passengers, but it does not state if it was for the driver.

Prescott High School opened its doors Saturday afternoon for students and staff to support from community counselors, psychologists and other support staff.

Additional counselors will also be available in the upcoming weeks as needed, the school district says.

"Open communication between parents and children is very important. Listen, give reassurance, and try to understand your child's feelings," Rick Spicuzza, Prescott's Superintendent wrote. "If you think your child is having a particularly difficult time dealing with this situation, please contact the school and we will provide additional assistance as needed."
