4 Dead, 3 Seriously Injured In Aitkin County Crash On Slick Roads

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A crash on Highway 65 near McGrath in Aitkin County left four people dead and three others seriously injured Saturday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a 2001 Mazda SUV was headed south on the highway at around 3 p.m. when it lost control on the wet, snow-packed road, swerving sideways into oncoming traffic. There, a northbound Chevrolet Suburban SUV smashed into the side of the car.

All four people in the Mazda were killed. The State Patrol says the identities of the deceased will be released Sunday afternoon.

Two women, two men and a 2-year-old child were in the Suburban. All were from McGregor.

The State Patrol says the Suburban's driver, 26-year-old Nicholas Meyer, and two of his passengers, 25-year-old Kevin Meyer and a 22-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries.

Another passenger, 21-year-old Amanda Christiansen, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the 2-year-old child suffer no apparent injuries.
