32-Year-Old Man Arrested After Hopkins Standoff

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 32-year-old man is in custody after a standoff in Hopkins Monday, according to police.

Hopkins Police Sgt. Mike Glassberg says police received a request at around 10:20 a.m. from Brooklyn Center to locate and arrest a suspect wanted in connection to a felony assault with a weapon.

Police later located the man at Hopkins Park Plaza, located on 517 Mainstreet. The man had barricaded himself inside the residence.

"They tried a lot of different options to negotiate his surrender and, ultimately, we used the chemical gas," Glassberg said.

Police then apprehended the suspect, who was checked out by medical personnel. He will be transported to the Brooklyn Center Police Department.

The suspect's identity has not been released, but he is someone who Hopkins Police have dealt with in the past, according to Glassberg.

An investigation is ongoing.
