3 Officers, 2 Others Injured In Separate Overnight Clashes In Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Five people, including three Minneapolis police officers, were treated for injuries overnight after police and civilians clashed in two separate incidents.
Around 1 a.m. Sunday in the Uptown neighborhood, police responded after drivers were allegedly racing near Lagoon and Hennepin avenues.
Police said the drivers "turned their aggression towards law enforcement," throwing rocks and other items. Two officers were injured and treated at a hospital. Officers managed to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, the Minneapolis Police Department said officers responded to reported fights at Hennepin Avenue and Fifth Street North around 2:10 a.m.
Police said they broke up the initial fights, and two people had "substantial head injuries." They were taken to a hospital.
The department said a crowd gathered at the scene "and additional fights broke out and violence was aimed at the police." One officer was taken to Hennepin Healthcare with a head wound.
Five people were cited or booked, police said, and the incident is under investigation.
