2 Teens Killed In South Mpls. Shooting ID'd As Richfield Students

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two teenagers who were killed in a south Minneapolis shooting have been identified as a fifth-grader and eighth-grader within the Richfield Public School District, according to a school official.

On Friday morning just after 7 a.m., the fatal shooting occurred inside an apartment on the 5400 block of 34th Avenue South, just east of Lake Nokomis in the city's Wenonah Neighborhood.

Police said a man and his two teenage children, a boy and a girl, were killed.

Richfield school officials identified the victims as Nahily Ronquillo, a fifth-grade student at Richfield Dual Language School, and her brother, Luis Ronquillo

The school said their mother, Maria Romero, was hospitalized due to injuries suffered in the incident. Her condition is unknown.

"All of us in Richfield Public Schools extend our deepest sympathies to the Ronquillo family and friends," the school said in a statement. "Because of our close school community, this death touches everyone at our two schools and many within the district."

School and community counselors, psychologists, and social workers were made available at the school Monday morning.
