1 Dead In Cedar-Riverside Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An overnight shooting in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood left one person dead and now police are looking for the person responsible.
The shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday on Cedar Avenue South, near the Cedar Cultural Center.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been shot. He later died at the hospital.
A show had just wrapped up there when the shooting happened.
The band that performed, Calamity and the Owl, posted the following message on Facebook:
"We are so saddened by the violence that occurred after our show tonight. Thank you to those who stepped in to get people to safety, and a dear friend of the bands for attempting CPR. No one at or involved with the show was hurt. What an awful thing."
Raquel Sidie-Wagner, the band's percussionist, said he was told by friends who saw the shooting that it happened after a disagreement between the victim and the shooter.
"It was clearly not a random shooting," Sidie-Wagner said. "It was an incredibly traumatizing experience for our friends who saw it directly. ... The friend of the band is a wonderful person who actually helped a great deal with the album, he jumped in when he saw the man and performed CPR while several people called 911."
At this point, the connection between the victim and suspect is still unclear.
Investigators say the shooting appears to be an isolated event.
The name of the victim has not been released.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police.
