1 Dead, 1 In Custody After Wright Co. Snowmobile Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in a fatal snowmobile accident on a Wright County lake early Sunday morning.

The Wright County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened at about 12:51 a.m. on the shoreline of Ramsey Lake, near the 5600 block of 33rd St. NW in Maple Lake Township.

Investigators say the snowmobile, driven by 20-year-old Charles Webb, was speeding along the shoreline when Webb suddenly stopped.

His passenger, 21-year-old Reid Ferguson of St. Francis, was thrown from the snowmobile. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Webb, from Maple Lake, suffered internal injuries, and was treated at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide after being released from the hospital.

Both Ferguson and Webb were not wearing helmets.

Webb is currently being held in the Wright County Jail.

The Wright County Investigations Unit and Recreational Service Unit are investigating the accident
