1 Arrested, 2 Seriously Injured After SUV Crashes Into Eagan Starbucks
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities father is in the hospital Tuesday night after a car hit him while he was in Starbucks.
It happened at the Starbucks on Central Park Commons Drive around 9 p.m. Monday. The 44-year-old man who was driving an SUV that crashed into the coffee shop was arrested for a DWI.
WCCO's Kate Raddatz spoke to the family of one of the victims about what he remembers moments before the crash.
Stanton Baldwin was supposed to be picking up his son Tuesday from Iowa, where he was spending time with his mom. Instead, the 29-year-old is in the hospital.
"When he looked up, he saw just license plates," said Angelica Baldwin, Stanton's mother.
Stanton was struck by an SUV that plowed into the Starbucks where he was getting coffee on the patio with a woman he was meeting on business. She was also hit.
"He went through a glass window and his leg was attached underneath the front of the car," said Angelica Baldwin.
A broken leg, fractured ribs and internal bleeding are just some of Stanton's injuries. His mom says he was in the process of opening a restaurant that is now on hold while he stays at Regions Hospital.
Stanton's 7-year-old son is also waiting to come back to Minnesota.
"His son is traumatized by it because he was looking forward to coming back home to be with his dad for school," added Angelica Baldwin.
Still, Angelica Baldwin says she's just grateful her son is alive.
Police believe the driver that hit Stanton and the woman was drinking when he crashed.
"I'm a blessed mother to have a blessed son to be alive," said Angelica Baldwin.
Police say the other victim, Macy Olson, was also taken to Regions hospital and is now in good condition. The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries and is in Dakota County Jail.
Police don't think the Starbucks has any structural damage. The business is closed Tuesday, but will likely reopen tomorrow.
