What is it about the Minnesota State Fair that keeps people coming back?
It's not like other states don't have fairs; corndogs and corn roasts aren't exclusive to the Gopher State, either.
So what is it?
WCCO's investigative reporter Jonah Kaplan was on the case.
State Fair vendors mark Military Appreciation Day
FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Tuesday is Military Appreciation Day at the Minnesota State Fair, a time to say thank you to all the men and women who have served, and are serving, our country.
You could find all kinds of tributes to the military on the fairgrounds. At Dan Patch Park, more than 50 different groups that support the military were on hand. They were there to offer support in a lot of different areas, but that was just the start.
WCCO's Reg Chapman spent some time with some of his fellow brothers and sisters who have served.

Could this be the best place for fair sunsets?
On the second level of the Grandstand, there's a great place to watch sunsets here at the fair.
The Hideaway Speakeasy even named a new drink after the view, fittingly called "Hideaway Sunset." Here's a preview from Susan-Elizabeth Littlefield.
"What is that?!"
We're not proud, but we got a big chuckle out of Amelia Santaniello's reaction to donning a blindfold and sticking her hand into a box in order to see if she could guess what, exactly, she could feel.
Needless to say, it took a few attempts.

It can take over a year to train these dogs to perform dock dives, standing on trainers' backs, and other such forms of showmanship.

Monday's attendance robust but short of the record
Day 5 attendance at the Minnesota State Fair easily bested the figures that were reported in 2021, but fell short of the record set back in 2017.
On Sunday, 120,288 were reported to have gone through the turnstiles at the fair. In 2021, that figure was just 91,568. However, in 2017, Day 5's attendance was 144,504, a record that still stands for Day 5 traffic..
As of now, there have been 714,263 admissions to the 2021 fair, with each day tracking above what the figures were in 2021.
