NEXT Weather: Another round of snow Tuesday, before big weekend cooldown

NEXT Weather: Noon report

MINNEAPOLIS – After 2-4 inches of snow stacked up in the Twin Cities Monday, another round of sustained snowfall is on the way overnight Tuesday - and it will linger well into Wednesday.

Tuesday will be slightly warmer in the metro, with highs in the low 30s. Light snow will fall again in the overnight hours and during the Tuesday morning commute.

Steadier bands of snow are expected in the afternoon, moving in from the southeast, and impacting the evening commute.

This snowfall will not be as heavy as what happened Monday, but it will be persistent - lasting through the Wednesday evening commute.

By Wednesday evening, the metro could have another inch of snow. Across the state, expect and additional 1-3 inches.

Wednesday's high temps will be comparable to Tuesday's, but a cooldown will roll in from the west Thursday, dropping the highs to the mid-to-low 20s. Then an even colder cooldown comes from the west, dropping temps into the high teens for Friday and Saturday. There will be more sunshine over the weekend, at least.

We'll warm into the low-to-mid 20s for Sunday and Monday.

Flurries Tuesday night, bitter cold by Friday

NEXT Weather: Noon report

Snow flurries will linger into the night Tuesday.

Temperatures will stay in the upper-20s so the highways are likely fine, but with slick spots in areas.

On Wednesday, expect clouds and the last of the "mild" days.

Then on Thursday, we could see some scattered flurries with gusty wind and temperatures in the high 20s.

The bitter cold arrives on Friday. It'll likely be a shock to the system. Temperatures will be in the teens for a few days.

Next week, things will warm up a bit, but will remain well below the average high of 42 degrees.
