Next Weather: Another round of storms could develop across southern Minnesota

Next Weather: 5 p.m. report

MINNEAPOLIS -- Saturday afternoon could still see some storms, though they will not be as severe as the ones that moved through Minnesota earlier in the day.

A portion of southeastern Minnesota - from Rochester to Red Wing - is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. Areas to the south and southeast of the metro have experienced tornado warnings throughout the afternoon.

The biggest threat from the storms is wind damage and potential hail, though there is also a threat for heavy rain and possible tornadoes. There have been reports of downed trees in a few southern Minnesota communities.

As of early evening, the storms that swept over the Twin Cities -- bringing much-needed rain -- have pushed into western Wisconsin, weakening in intensity. Conditions in the metro should be mostly dry through the evening.

However, another round of thunderstorms could develop late Saturday across the Interstate 90 corridor in southern Minnesota. This system could clip areas of the south metro.

After the storms, the humidity will drop drastically and Sunday will be a pleasant day with temperatures in the 80s.
