Music At The Fair
It's all about local talent Sunday evening at the Grandstand. This extra-special evening brings together the 26 nightly first-place winners from 10 days of competition at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell, and it's the 50th annual such event. The show is free to the public and starts at 7:30 p.m.
Ice companies work overtime at Minnesota State Fair amid extreme heat
The heat is taking its toll on the Minnesota State Fair.
Sunday didn't reach the 104-degree record set almost 100 years ago. But while the heat is hard to bear, for others, it's a welcome sight that keeps them in business.
Gov. Walz, Rep. Lisa Demuth talk politics at State Fair
As is Esme Murphy's WCCO Sunday Morning tradition, we were talking politics on the set at our WCCO State Fair booth.
Gov. Tim Walz was on hand to chat about all sorts of issues on Minnesotans' minds, from SROs to education. He also updated that the family cat, Afton, is unfortunately still missing.
Rep. Lisa Demuth was also on hand to discuss many of the same issues. You can see both hers and Walz's interviews in the videos below.
Tune in tonight to see Esme Murphy unpack what we learned from both interviews, and whether or not we'll see a special session to hammer out the language in the new law pertaining to SROs.
Both Saturdays' attendance breaks 200K
For the second time in 2023, the daily attendance figure reached above 200,000 total, making both Saturdays the busiest day of the fair thus far.
It could be the heat kept people away compared to normal figures, as the second Saturday usually counts as the busiest day of them all, and in this case it was bested by the prior Saturday.
At this point, it's not looking like the 2023 fair is going to break the all-time attendance record set in 2019, with more heat in store for the last pair of days.
State Fair treats to keep you cool during extreme heat
Isabella Barona of Quench'd talks about the booth's offerings, including a new treat perfect for beating the heat.
