State fair to allow animals to leave early due to heat

The Minnesota State Fair announced Saturday it will let animal exhibitors take their livestock home early due to the heat.

The decision comes after careful consideration and consultation with the state fair veterinarian, species superintendents and Livestock Complex staff.

Livestock are now permitted to leave the fairgrounds starting at 11 p.m. Sunday, as opposed to 1 p.m. Monday.

The early departure impacts animals in the CHS Miracle of Birth Center, all FFA livestock, open class feed cattle, open class dairy goats and open class rabbits.

Educational displays such as the Oink Booth and Moo Booth will be staffed and continue activities that do not involve livestock as previously scheduled.
