Woman Says Armed Man Stole Beloved Family Pet

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- A South Florida woman is asking for the public's help to find her dog that she said was stolen at gunpoint.

Damica Clark and her brother, Derin, put up flyers around the scene of the crime -- Washington Street and South 22 Avenue in Hollywood -- on Wednesday evening. They want anyone who knows what happened to  -- a 9-year-old Yorkshire Terrier -- to please come forward.

"I just don't understand why someone would do something like that," Damica told CBS4's Carey Codd. "If money's their motive, I'll give you money. Like, I just want my dog back."

It was Tuesday morning around 1:00 a.m., when Derin Clark said he was walking India -- when he was approached by a man who wanted to sell him something.

"As I turned around he was like, 'Well, look. I got this for you' and it was kind of like a pistol in my ribs," Derin said.

Clark said the man stole two cellphones from him and India.

"It's my family's pet," he said. "We just don't know what's going on right now. How the dog's being treated, if it's been abandoned somewhere, if it's still alive."

Damica said India is sick and she's worried what will happen if she doesn't get her medications.

"She has a really bad intestinal infection and stress makes it worse," she explained. "That's the thing that scares me the most."

One thing that scares her is never seeing India again.

Damica said she is offering a reward for India's safe return with no questions asked. She just wants this special part of her life and family back home safe and sound.

"I would rather have lost my car or my home than to lose her, honestly," Damica said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hollywood Police Department or click here to visit Damica Clark's Facebook page with more information about the case.
