SUNRISE (CBSMiami) -- An elderly woman is in the hospital after almost drowning at a gym facility in Sunrise.
The members of the 24 Hour Fitness on Oakland Park Boulevard were not expecting the large police presence they encountered as they headed in for their workouts.
Many like Cheryl Parker were concerned.
"Probably 15 police officers, maybe detectives inside....It's my gym. I work out here four or five times a week," said Parker.
Sunrise Police turned out in force when they received the report that a 74- year-old woman was found unconscious in the gym's swimming pool Monday afternoon.
Police said a fellow gym member discovered her and that she was wearing a snorkel and mask when pulled out.
"One of the employees were noticeably shaken up. Police were consoling her," said gym member Ralph Shattuck.
Investigators said that a Good Samaritan and staff members gave the woman CPR and may have used a defibrillator in the facility to help save her.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"Saw someone leaving in an ambulance, and since then, over the past hour or so, there are crime scene investigators. There were female officers going through the female locker room," said Parker.
Police said the woman is alive but is not conscious.
Police have not identified the woman. They are still in the process of notifying her next of kin.
Investigators do not suspect foul play.
The manager at 24 Hour Fitness had no comment on the dramatic incident.
