MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Police say a domestic dispute in Miami turned deadly after two women were shot and a man suffered self-inflicted stab wounds.
Wednesday night, Miami-Dade Police rushed to the home on N.W. 99th Street to find 45-year-old Yunia Gomez dead from a gunshot.
Her 19-year-old daughter, Eryka Jiminez, was also shot but survived.
Police said the alleged shooter, Gomez's 41-year-old boyfriend Jairo Ramon-Mejia, then stabbed himself with a knife several times.
"We all know Jairo, we all know the mom. But we never knew of any domestic issues with them," said Jenny Jean, who employs Jiminez. "I just saw her the other day. Like, it's crazy."
Officers have been called to the home at least twice before for domestic-related issues, court records confirm.
Both women were hard workers, Jean said. At a store around the corner where Gomez worked, the front doors remained shuttered because she was the one who opened them each day.
Giminez works at a hair salon a few doors down.
"She started here right after she graduated from high school," said Jean. "She was very family-oriented. She always kept her nephew. She has an older sister and an older brother. She just started working with me to help her sister and her mom."
The mother-daughter duo was never far from each other.
"She was always, always, always asking me about my daughter. Always prayed. Always had me encouraged. Always thanked me for helping her daughter having her here, looking out for the community," said Jean. "She was a very sweet lady."
The teenager is in stable condition.
Ramon-Mejia was hospitalized in unknown condition.
