Woman hospitalized after getting stabbed near Hollywood gas station

FORT LAUDERDALE — A woman was hospitalized after she was found with stab wounds at a Hollywood gas station early Thursday morning.

Hollywood Police were called to a possible stabbing at a Chevron gas station near 1600 Federal Highway around 3:45 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the woman and immediately gave her aid before paramedics took her to the hospital.

Brian Adams, an employee at Richard's Hotel across the street, told CBS News Miami that he was working the front desk just minutes before when a man approached him and with a woman, pretending to help translate for her.

"That's why I got the feeling he was putting it into Google Translate," he said. "I don't need you for that and I speak enough Spanish to be dangerous."

Adams said he knew something wasn't right with the situation.

"Just the way he was acting, he wouldn't look at me. He was looking behind him everywhere but where my eyes were," he told CBS News Miami. "And you're dealing with people like this every night, especially on the overnight, you get a different crowd. You get the gut feelings with people and I just gave him a price that was so high, they walked away."

Moments after the interaction, Adams said he saw a different woman wobbling across the street as if something was wrong. About a half hour later, police came looking for information and said a woman had been stabbed.

"And as soon as they told me that the clothes that he was wearing, the lightbulb popped it -- black shirt, blue pants -- it's the exact guy I saw 30 minutes before," Adams said.

He then showed police surveillance video he had.

"As soon as they saw the girl that was here, they said, 'No, this is not the girl,'" Adams said. "And then I told them there was another girl I saw across the street and that's when they figured out this is the right girl."

While CBS News Miami was at the scene, police began to shift their focus to a car across the street in a CVS parking lot that said "Uber" on it. That car was towed away and escorted by police. It is unclear at this time the car's connection to the incident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
