MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A jury has reached a verdict in the case of a woman accused of killing the man she suspected of murdering her husband.
On Wednesday, Janepsy Carballo was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing Ilan Nissim. She was sentenced to life in prison.
In May 2008, Nissim was shot six times in the back after, prosecutors said, Carballo lured him to her North Miami home.
In April, 2008, Carballo's husband was shot by two men in front of the couple's home. A home surveillance video showed the men with dreadlocks pull up in a white Toyota, fire, flee, then circle back to finish him off, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
Carballo told investigators she thought the man behind the shooting was Nissim because of a bad business deal. She said her husband had given Nissim $180,000 for a real estate transaction, but the money was later stolen.
Prosecutors said Nissim had nothing to do with that murder.
Caraballo's defense has maintained that she was in fear of Nissim and shot him in self-defense.
