What's being done to prevent deadly train collisions?

POMPANO BEACH - A woman died Sunday after being hit by two trains while walking on the tracks in Deerfield beach

The tragedy happened just a day before the launch of a new campaign to end deadly train collisions. Dubbed 'Don't risk it' the PSA features a man in  a hurry thinking about going around a railroad crossing as a train is approaching - he then imagines losing his family- and changes his mind

The campaign was unveiled in Pompano Beach Monday.

The Broward metropolitan planning organization (MPO).in conjunction with Broward cities are behind the campaign.

"Take a breath, watch the lights, don't stop on the tracks and don't take the risk" said Tri-Rail's David Dech

While the focus is on preventing drivers from trying to beat the train, there is a recognition mental health can't be ignored

"I lost a longtime dear friend who took his own life walking in front of a train. He was suffering a long time. I didn't know until I got the call" said Broward mayor Lamar Fisher.
