Woman Accused Of Carjacking Truck With Baby, Grandmother Inside
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Northwest MIami-Dade woman faces charges including kidnapping and drunk driving after a 63-year-old grandmother and an 11-month-old child are taken for a terrifying ride during a carjacking and chase.
Florida Highway Patrol trooper and spokesman Joe Sanchez tells CBS4's Peter D'Oench that 31-year-old Alexis Loretta Facey is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, DUI, DUI with property damage, aggravated battery, kidnapping, and grand theft.
CBS4 was there as she was taken away by FHP where the crash ended on Miramar Parkway at S.W. 62nd Ave.
Sanchez says it all started on I-95 near Ives Dairy Road when Facey drove her vehicle into a ditch.
When two good Samaritans stopped to try to help her, Sanchez said Facey got into one of their vehicle—-a black pickup truck—-and took off.
"For reasons we believe she was under the influence of alcohol and did not want to stick around," said Sanchez.
A Good Samaritan tries to stop Facey from fleeing.
"That person is dragged for awhile as Facey is fleeing," said Sanchez.
The father who owns the pickup truck—-Jose Seijo—-and another Good Samaritan pursue Facey as she flees.
"There were 2 dogs in this car along with the 63-year-old grandmother and the 11-month-old child so there were pets with them as well," said Sanchez.
He said Facey headed south on I-95 and then got off at Miramar Parkway, heading westbound.
While Seijo and the other man were following Facey, their vehicle was T-boned at a light by state road 441 and they were both injured. Sanchez said Facey kept going westbound and got into another crash at S.W. 62nd Ave.
"When she got to Southwest 62nd Avenue she hit another vehicle head on," said Sanchez. "Thank God the mother-in-law is ok and the 11-month-old child is ok and the dogs are ok."
But another victim was inside an SUV had to cut out of that vehicle and rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition. She has not been identified.
Seijo spoke off camera to D'Oench and said while he and his child and dogs are ok, his mother-in-law also had to be hospitalized. He said he was too shaken up to speak on camera. He said the suspect was acting very strange and seemed like she was definitely under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Facey was taken to the TGK Correctional Center.
A check or records shows she's been arrested before for creating counterfeit credit cards, battery, aggravated assault and grand theft.
"The concern is out of the kindness of their hearts they felt they had to help the lady in need and their payback is that she ends up stealing a vehicle," said Sanchez.
"At the end of the day you have to ask, should we stop and help people. Yes, we should stop and help people because the chances are this isn't going to happen."
