What's A Bull Shark Doing In A Central Florida Pond?
INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH (CBSMiami) – Wildlife officials are trying to catch a bull shark in Florida, but not from the ocean, from a land-locked pond located in a popular park.
How the shark ended up in the murky Indian Harbour Beach freshwater pond remains a mystery because there's no access to the ocean and there are grates on the drains to prevent alligators from getting in.
Residents have their own theories.
"Somebody obviously caught him fishing and decided oh let's play a joke and throw him in the pond," said Melbourne resident Gina Hodges.
The shark, which may be as large as 4-feet long, was first spotted a few weeks ago in the pond located in Brevard County, just south of Cape Canaveral.
A local wildlife trapper is trying to catch the shark so it can be released into the nearby Indian River.
Until that happens, visitors are being warned about the shark in the park.
FWC said they are looking into what kind of action they can take if they locate who put the shark in the pond.
