Water-boil order in effect for parts of Hollywood Beach, Dania Beach
HOLLYWOOD BEACH - Water is slowly being restored to sections of Hollywood Beach and Dania Beach after crews spent Tuesday repairing a broken water main south of Sheridan Street and A1A.
Hollywood residents woke up to find water flooding the streets south of Sheridan and crews shut down a northbound section of A1A while repairs were made.
King tides and the high tide made it a bigger challenge for crews who had to clear water from underneath the street to get to the broken main.
The break meant the taps ran dry for hundreds of residents on the Barrier Island like Claudia Davsrona.
"I couldn't take a shower, I'm sweaty walking my dog. A lot of people are affected," she said.
The affected area ran a mile north of Sheridan up to the Dania Beach Pier, including beachfront high rises, the state park, the Coast Guard Station and NSU's oceanographic lab.
Corky Philips pedaled to the pier beating the rain only to find the Quarterdeck Restaurant closed because of no water.
"I missed taco Tuesday because of the water main break," he said.
Work crews are leaving flyers on door handles to let residents know because of the break.
Water needs to be boiled until further notice.
