Viral Infection Hits Florida State University

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) -- A viral infection has hit Florida State University prompting some major cleaning and cancellations.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the infection called hand, foot and mouth disease - more common to babies and toddlers - affected a small group of students.
FSU Health and Wellness Center Director Lesley Sacher said there were more than a dozen cases as of Wednesday.
There is no treatment for the virus which may cause mouth sores, skin rash, and fever, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. It takes about five days for the infection to run its course.
The outbreak prompted university officials to cancel several events including fraternity rush activities Tuesday night.
Crews at the university wiped down affected public and living areas including dormitories and fraternity and sorority houses.
