Video: Quick-Footed Thief Snatches Purse In Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) -- The Broward Sheriff's Office has released surveillance video of a purse-snatcher who was forced to make a run for it after his victim gave chase in a Pompano Beach apartment complex parking lot.
On September 8, a woman was waiting to be buzzed into a residential building at 1505 North Riverside Driver around 9:23 a.m., when a man ran up behind her and grabbed her purse. "I feel afraid and surprised," the victim told CBS4's Ted Scouten.
She asked that we not use her name because she is afraid.
"He pressed his finger in my shoulder," she explained "and he pushed my purse."
The two briefly struggled and as the man tried to run away, he dropped one of his flip-flops at the scene.
The victim chased him in an attempt to recover her purse but the quick-footed thief was able to outrun her and drove away in a dark-colored car, possibly a Honda or Toyota.
She didn't give up. "She was very active in chasing him," explained BSO Spokeswoman Gina Carter. "She chased him on foot, once he got to his car and started to get away, she ran to her car and tried to follow him in her car." She did not catch him. He got away.
Her bank cards were used at a RaceTrac gas station in Pompano Beach. The suspect dropped the ski hat used during the crime in the parking lot near where he had parked his car.
