Veteran Homicide Detective Named Deputy Chief At Miami Beach PD

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – A veteran South Florida police detective, who retired from one department after 38 years on the job only to join another, has been named Deputy Chief of the Miami Beach Police Department.

The promotion ceremony for John Buhrmaster took place Thursday.

Buhrmaster joined the Miami Beach Police Department in October 2012, just several months after he retired from the Miami Police Department.

He was considered a legend at the Miami Police Department and spent 25 years in the homicide unit and 10 of those years as Commander of the unit.

Overall, he was with Miami PD for 38 years.

Buhrmaster has been named Officer of the Year three different times by the City of Miami and the state and has also received three medals for distinguished service from the Fraternal Order of Police.
