Vehicle Registration Fees Rolled Back

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Good news for Florida drivers.

Beginning Monday, September 1st, it's now cheaper to register your vehicle in the state.

The fee rollback is a part of a $500 million package of tax cuts and fee reductions approved by the Legislature last spring.  It's expected to save owners $17 to $25 a year, depending on the size of the vehicle.

Governor Rick Scott is expected to highlight this change this week as he hits the campaign trail.

Lawmakers and then-Gov. Charlie Crist approved a vehicle registration fee increases in 2009, amid a state budget shortfall.

The bill is expected to save motorists a total of $309 million during this 2014-15 budget year. The savings are expected to grow to about $395 million, once the cuts are in effect for the full 12 months of a fiscal year.
