MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A University of Miami grad is giving back in a big way.

Trustee Pete Piechoski, who graduated in 1976 with an accounting degree, has made a million dollar commitment to the university's athletic department.

Piechoski's gift will support Miami's Student-Athlete Excellence Fund, which provides operational and scholarship support for all Hurricane teams, and its Basketball Victory Fund. Piechoski and his family also have established funds to help Miami's graduate business students, graduate engineering students and those studying abroad.

Piechoski is a former construction executive and currently serves as USA Bobsled and Skeleton's chairman of the board. He says he is "thrilled to be able to invest in the university that invested in me."

The commitment is the sixth of $1 million or more for Miami athletics in the last 13 months.
