MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Some scary moments for an Uber driver in northwest Miami-Dade.
A early morning fare turned violent when two men he picked up in Opa-locka around 5:30 a.m. pulled guns on him in a robbery attempt at NW 67th Street and 32nd Avenue.
"The first moment I knew something was not right was when I heard a 'click, click'. That was not right," he said. "One of them was a .38 special. The other was a Glock 40."
The driver, "Zay," said he's had some military training and thought he could handle himself, so he fought back.
"When I looked back I saw one gun and I grabbed the other one. I grabbed the barrel of both of them. I made sure they weren't pointing them at me so I just spread them out so they wouldn't shoot," he said. "When I grabbed one of the guns, one of them ran around the car and they tried to take me out of the driver's side while I had a hold of one of them. I actually tried to take it from him. The one guy was yelling 'shoot him'."
Zay said he thought of his two children and was determined not to get hurt, or worse - dead.
"I was around military guys. It may have been crazy to do that but I have two kids. I can't stand it. You are not going to take me away from my two boys," he said.
In the end, they took off with Zay's 2014 Chevrolet Impala and his wallet which had about $400 in it. The car was later recovered by the police thanks to its OnStar system.
Zay, who has only been an Uber driver for three weeks, said its a second job for him and he's not sure if he'll continue doing it.
Police questioned three people in the carjacking and ended up arresting two them.
