MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- CBS4 is dedicated to providing stories that recognizes the importance of mentoring in our community. Mentors encourage, guide and make a positive impact which is why Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami has teamed up with Uber to drive mentoring in Miami forward.
The ride sharing company is providing free uberPOOL rides for mentors, called Bigs, without transportation to visit their Littles.
In addition, Uber will donate $5 to BBBS Miami for every new Uber user who enters the code BBBSMIA for his or her first ride. The free transportation is expected to help BBBS Miami attract a broader pool of volunteers, such as college students, who do not have cars or easy access to public transportation.
BBBS Miami, which currently serves 7,000 children, volunteers, and families every year, expects the partnership will help reduce its long-standing list of 1,000 youths waiting to be matched with mentors.
"As Miami's transit infrastructure improves, many potential volunteers still need help with transportation so they can become Big Brothers or Big Sisters, and we are thrilled to partner with Uber to help expand our volunteer base while also raising money to support our vital mission," said Gale Nelson, president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami.
"Uber is proud to partner with impactful organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami and leverage our technology to better connect our community," said Kasra Moshkani, general manager for Uber South Florida. "We are proud to help create opportunities for connecting mentors with youths and make a positive difference on Miami's next generation of leaders."
