Two Teens Arrested After Coral Springs Police Pursuit

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – Cliff Chin likes to keep an eye out his window at night, worried someone will steal the metal he collects for recycling.

But the Coral Springs resident never expected to see a police take down unfold before his eyes.

Monday at four o'clock in the morning, Chin saw what turned out to be a stolen van, careen out of control on Woodside Drive.

"Then I heard a boom and a screech," he tells CBS 4 News.

The boom he heard was a van taking down a tree in front of his home.

Chin says a passenger was ejected from the vehicle.  By the time he raced to the young man on the ground, police were on the scene.

"The cops were tailing them.  More cops came and an ambulance took the guy off the ground, he was drinking or on something."

Coral Springs police say they started following the van after the occupants were observed trying to steal another vehicle in the 5600 block of Riverside Drive.

After they crashed, the remaining occupants bailed out, jumped over the wall of a gated community and started running.

Police caught 19-year-old Vandivuiet Williams.  He's been arrested before on battery and trespassing charges.

The other juvenile who was on the ground was not seriously hurt and taken to juvenile detention.

Police continue to look for two other teenagers.

CBS4 News talked to the owner of the van that was stolen.

"I'm very happy they captured the guys but I feel sad because I have to buy a new car," says Marcelo Vicenzio who says it was stolen out of his driveway early Saturday morning.

Vicenzio says he has only 'basic' insurance and it doesn't cover replacing his totaled van.

Not only that but he has been hit with the towing costs associated with removing his stolen van from Woodside Drive.

"The towing company wants to charge me 300 dollars to take the van out and 400 dollars if I want to leave it there," he says.

If you have information on the two teenagers who are still on the run, call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
