Two People Shot At Golden Glades Tri-Rail Station

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade Police are trying to sort out who fired at whom at the Golden Glades Tri-Rail station where two people, including a security guard, were shot Thursday afternoon.

According to investigators, two security guards removed a passenger from the train they deemed suspicious.

A confrontation ensued on the platform, police said.

"During the altercation, the security guard was pushed on to the tracks by the subject," Miami-Dade Police Sgt. John Barrow said. "The security guard was shot."

Investigators say the other security guard chased the man, and at some point the suspect was shot.

Witnesses said the tried tried to board the #18 bus bound for Lauderhill Mall as it was stopped in the middle of rush hour traffic on State Road 9.

"We only see him with blood and he keep crawling the blood on the window and the door of the bus," passenger Faye Johnson said. "The bus driver wouldn't let him in the bus. So when he see the cops come he ran underneath the bus and they get him our from underneath there."

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Sanchez said he just happened to be in his cruiser at the Park and Ride lot filling out paperwork when he heard the call of shots fired.

"Myself and two other county officers were able, guns drawn, to get the suspect to the ground at which time he got underneath the bus and wouldn't come out," Sanchez said.

The passengers were relieved their driver kept her cool.

Sanchez said she did the right thing by keeping the bus doors locked, possibly preventing a hostage situation.

He is glad he was in the right place at the right time to help.

"Police work is like that, you never know when you're going to be in a situation so you always have to be ready," Sanchez explained.

He said the man he helped take into custody was not armed at the time, but he added that doesn't mean he wasn't armed at some point.

Both of the gunshot victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and listed in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
