Elegant sushi den Nossa Omakase offering 12-course dinner for $100 per person

Taste Of The Town: Nossa Omakase offering exclusive summer deal on 12 course dinner

MIAMI BEACH - Nossa Omakase is tucked away in an alley off 16th Street and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. The first challenge is finding your way inside.

"You find a red door. I have instructions on my phone and a secret password. That's how I can get in," CBS News Miami's Lisa Petrillo said, while just outside the door.

"Password, please," said a voice from inside

Petrillo gave her the secret password: "Omakase" and she was in.

Co-owner Astrid guides guests to the chic speakeasy bar area, where classic Japanese Godzilla movies play on TV screens. Guests receive a complimentary glass of sake before entering the elegant, hidden sushi den.

"Come on in, welcome to Nossa," Astrid said,

It's in an intimate setting, Chef Sebastian Labno works his magic for 15 seated guests.

Together with his ex-wife and business partner, Astrid, they typically offer an 18-course dinner for $375 per person.

This summer, they're providing a discounted 12-course "Omakase for Beginners" for $100 per person on select nights.

"Omakase is an experience for people who may not know what it is and are sometimes too afraid to commit to a big menu. We want to introduce this to a regular crowd that just wants to try it," Chef said.

Chef Sebastian aims to fully immerse each guest in the experience.

"I want you to disconnect once you're in the bar and walk in here with a clear mind. There's no world here as you can see. I don't want you to be texting. Have fun with us," Labno explained.

During the 12-course tasting, Lisa Petrillo enjoyed pristine quality fish and perfect execution of each dish. No chopsticks—it's hands-on for this dry-aged salmon with Japanese seaweed, salt, and fresh truffle.

"This is next level. This is phenomenal. This salmon is just like butter, and the truffle gives it this elegance on top," she said.

We also tried the melt-in-your-mouth bluefin tuna called Chu Toro. And let's not forget the rice.

"Great sushi starts with the rice. You can have great fish, but if you have horrible rice, it just doesn't work. So we try to get the best possible rice from Japan with the best possible dry-aged vinegar. There's nothing like it," Chef explained.

Another highlight was the beautiful Japanese white fish called Kinmedai, marinated and torched, followed by Chef's extravagant smoking bluefin tuna tartare topped with a quail egg and truffle cream.

"That's so special, so unique. It's like a sandwich. You don't want to stop eating," said Petrillo.

They ended with Chef's homemade coconut ice cream topped with 24-karat edible gold dust—so Miami!

"Gold dust or not, that is delicious. And you're telling me there's no dairy in this? What is it made from?" asked Petrillo.

"That's a Polish family recipe," Chef said laughing.

Nossa Omakase is open Tuesday through Saturday, offering the $100 12-course dinner on Tuesdays through Thursdays. For more information, click here.
