FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- It's always interesting to see what Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials finds in people's carry-on luggage.

"It's a belt, kind of a jazzy looking belt that's full of bullets in it," said one officer.

There was a table full of things, most people, wouldn't even dream of taking on a plane.

"Want to remind travelers leave their grenades, their knives and their guns at home," said Sari Koshetz with TSA.

Then there were grenades. All of them were fake. One was even a perfume bottle, but none the less, they were in people's carry-on luggage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport this year.

A meat cleaver was found, along with a purse with built-in brass knuckles. Those things and everything else like that could have ended up on a plane in the seat right next to you.

"Over the course of the last year, TSA officers just here at Fort Lauderdale have collected eight thousand pounds of prohibited items," said Koshetz

A lot of fake guns are left in bags as well-but TSA also finds the real thing too.

"What you don't see are the 43 loaded fire arms that were confiscated at check points," said Roy Liddicott with the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO).

Drones are also another item banned in and around the airport. Airlines will not allow them on board because of the lithium batteries. One of the drones displayed actually crashed near the runway at North Perry Airport.

New regulations require owner to register them now and know they can't be flown near airports.

"This is a little more robust than a bird so imagine this impacting the front of an aircraft, the propeller or going into an engine which I could destroy instantly," said Mike Nottimaker.

If you're not sure if you can bring a meat cleaver in your checked bag when you go to the airport, there's a good way to find out by clicking here.
