Trump In NYC To Watch Returns Come In

NEW YORK (CBSMiami) – Preparations are still underway at the Grand Ballroom of the Midtown Hilton in New York City.

That is where Donald Trump and his closest supporters will hold what is being billed as a victory party on Tuesday night.

This may not feel like a typical Trump event as for starters, it's not at a Trump property. And it will be a much more intimate, invitation only crowd.

But some supporters are hoping to get in anyway.

"I don't have a ticket. But I wanted to see if I could sneak in," said Daniel Tindle.

Tindle doesn't have a ticket to Trump's election night party, but that's not stopping him from showing up at the Midtown Hilton hoping for a front seat to history.

"Donald Trump is just the opposite of all the career politicians no one wants to see anymore," Tindle said.

But with all the raucous rallies over, all the GOP candidate and his supporters can do is wait.

Trump cast his ballot at his east side polling place Tuesday morning, his wife Melania doing her civic duty by his side.

"It's looking very good," Trump said.

Inside, he was confident. But outside, he was rushed into a waiting vehicle as people booed him.

He seemed like a more subdued version of himself when talking to reporters.

"I'm very excited," Trump said. "It's a great opportunity. There's tremendous enthusiasm. You see it all over the country. All over the world. It's been great a feeling."

Despite reports that his campaign banned him from using Twitter, this message was posted before most polls opened on the east coast: "Today we make America great again."

His son Eric snapped and posted a photo of his marked ballot on Twitter, an act that's illegal in New York.

"I'm feeling proud," Eric Trump said on Tuesday. "Honestly I'm so proud of my father and what's he's done is incredible."

On CBS This Morning, he discussed the importance of Florida and the Latino vote.

"Cuban community absolutely loves us," Eric Trump said. "So many communities love us and quite frankly so many of the communities are the ones left most behind by failed policies. That has to end."

And Trump knows he needs Florida to even have a shot at the White House.

It's been a long and wild road for the unconventional candidate who announced his White House run with some controversy at Trump Tower in June 2015 and then defeated a crowded field in the primary to emerge as his party's nominee.

The seemingly endless months of rallies reached critical mass Monday with events from Florida to Michigan and several states in between where he shouted his usually rally cries, such as "Who is going to pay for the wall?"

For those proudly on the Trump train, his bravado and business acumen make him their candidate of choice.

Now, it isn't exactly a large ballroom at the Midtown Hilton, so it's fair to say Trump's event will be a relatively intimate gathering compared to many of his rallies.

Trump himself won't actually be in this building until much later.

He tweeted a short time ago he'd be watching results come in at the Trump Tower with his family.
